Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Every year since the band’s inception in 1961, the Pipes and Drums have played at Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Edmonton. In addition to the formal events, several solo pipers play at ceremonies at schools throughout Edmonton prior to November 11th. For many years the band played outdoors at the Cenotaph at City Hall in all kinds of weather. After two years playing indoors at the Kinsmen Fieldhouse we have been fortunate to play inside at the University of Alberta’s Butter Dome since 1987. In 2008 the Remembrance Day Ceremonies celebrated the 90th Anniversary of the end of World War I. A large crowd was present to hear Master of Ceremonies J’Lyn Nye host the event.

Check out some photos of a day in the life of the band behind the scenes at Remembrance Day.

Here is a YouTube video from Remembrance Day 2011 at the Butterdome in Edmonton. Thanks to the videographer who shared it on YouTube!
