K Days Parade
K Days Parade
Each year since 1963 the Edmonton Police Pipes and Drums have participated in the Annual Edmonton K Days Parade. The Band traditionally has a group photo taken with the Chief just before the parade steps off and they normally lead the parade along with other members of the Service.
The photo above was taken prior to the 2012 with Chief Rod Knecht.
The fair was named the Edmonton Exhibition from its founding in 1879 until 1964, when it was renamed Klondike Days.
There was some initial controversy over the change in name from Klondike Days to Capital EX, in 2006. Many locals remained to refer to the exhibition as Klondike Days or K-Days. Before the 2012 event, Northlands announced that the Capital Ex name would be retired, and a new name would be chosen by public vote. Event goers had six options to choose from, with K-Days being selected as the new name for the fair.
